How it works
From your camera roll to your wall …
01 — Apply with photos
Tell me about your pet and share a few reference photos. Their name, personality, and what makes them unmistakably them. The more I know, the better I can understand the subject beyond the photograph. You don't need a professional photoshoot or a perfect picture -- just send the photographs that best show your pet's face, personality, and the details that make them special.
02 — Photo review
I'll review your photos and confirm that they will work well for a painting before payment is made. If I need additional references or have composition suggestions, I'll discuss them with you at this stage.
03 — Choose your portrait and make a 50% deposit
Select the size and format that works for your space. A small portrait can be intimate and understated. A larger painting can become a statement piece. If you're unsure what size or composition would work best, I'll help you decide. Once your photos and commission details are approved, a 50% deposit secures your commission slot. No surprises: You'll know the final price before you commit.
04 — Painting
I study your references, consider the composition, and begin the original oil painting. Every painting is created on 1.5"-deep gallery-wrapped canvas with painted edges. I use no filters, templates, or automated effects. Every portrait is individually composed and painted by hand, with careful attention to expression, character, light and detail.
05 — Meet your portrait
Once it's painted, I'll let you know it's complete. Drying and varnishing are built into the 4–6 week timeline. After the paint has dried, your original portrait is ready to be sent on its journey home.
06 — Balance & delivery
The remaining 50% balance, plus any shipping cost confirmed at booking, is due before delivery. Your painting is then carefully packed and sent on its way.
07 — 100% Money-Back Guarantee
If you don't love the finished portrait, I'll refund you in full, no questions asked.
FAQ
How much does an oil pet portrait cost?
Prices start at $500 CAD for a 9×12" canvas, with larger sizes up to $2,400 CAD for a 24×30" portrait.
How long does a commission take?
The full process, including drying and varnishing, takes 4–6 weeks from approval to completion.
What makes a great reference photo?
Your pet doesn't need to sit perfectly still and look directly at the camera. In fact, some of the best portraits begin with imperfect photographs. Look for:
Clear details around the eyes and face
Natural expression
Good lighting
An angle that feels like your pet
Have several photographs?
Send them. Different images can help me understand the details, proportions and personality of your pet.
More than one pet?
No problem! I can create a portrait featuring two or more pets, even if they were never photographed together. If they're part of the family, they're welcome in the portrait.
Do you ship outside Toronto?
Yes, portraits can be shipped anywhere, with the exact shipping cost confirmed at booking before the final balance is due.
Can I pay with Interac e-Transfer?
Yes, Canadian clients are welcome to pay via Interac to chibilyaev@gmail.com
